Semi-Annual Top 5 Games Roundup

Have you seen all the games we’ve previewed in the last six months?  I thought not. Shame on you. Luckily I’ve put the best of the best (best of the mediocre?) here in one post so you don’t have to wade through all of them! And yes, they are in a particular order – we’ve saved the best for last!

How did we decide which were the best? Of course it is all subjective, but when the kids ask for a game over-and-over-and-over, you know it is good. Cost, replayability, quality of construction and timelessness all played into our decisions. We picked from all the games we featured whether brand new or a Thrift Treasure. We have board games, card game, dice games and much more to choose from. So, without further adieu…

    1. That does look like a fun one! We’ve been in contact with USAopoly in the past, but haven’t worked with them (yet). Hopefully that will change soon!

  1. My kiddos are still a little to young for these games. I will save this post for when they are we are ready to trade in Chutes and Ladders & Candy Land for something a bit more substantial!

  2. I love that you guys play so many games. This is an awesome roundup – they all sound fun!

  3. Thanks for the round up. We LOVE games. Crazy Eights, Go Fish and Candyland are about all that Sweet T can play right now, but looks like she is going to love playing games as much as we do. Yay!

  4. I recently found a game at a garage sale and I —am not kidding– thought of your blog! This was a game I never heard of and my girls and I actually loved it! Who Knew.. I think wo looking is the name of it… it’s by Cranium.

    1. We’ve seen a lot of different games by Cranium at yard sales and thrift stores, but every time we find one the clay inside is all dried up. Someday we’ll try one out that is in good shape!

And good for you for picking it up – for a buck or two you can take the chance at some great entertainment and much cheaper than a movie!

  5. I adore board games and have a problem with buying too many at yard sales — especially old ones that I’ve never heard of! I love your round up, we’ve not tried any of them but now I’ll be on the lookout!

  6. I’m impressed you’ve managed to try so many games! My husband is a huge fan of board games and we’re often looking for new ones to try out.

  7. We love having family game nights. We recently just agreed to have a family game night with my brother-in-law and his wife. So two families under one roof competing in board games. Should be a lot of fun! We will have to try some of these.

  8. We love sequence so I am sure we would also like the Sequence dice game. Family game time is always a hit in our house. Thanks for some new to us suggestions!

  9. I love that these boards games are as much fun as video games. Board games are so much better for family game nights and of course family bonding

  10. WOW! What a great collection of games. I’m always looking for new ones for at home and for gifts! Thanks for the through review of some new games to add to our collection,

  11. There are definitely some great and creative games out there these days! I don’t get to play games much because my family and friends aren’t really big board game people, but every now and again I like to try a new one out 🙂

  12. I love finding games at the Thrift Store! We have a closest full of family games. I haven’t heard of a few of these, I need to keep my eye out for them!

  13. I love the games you chose. The ones that look like I played when I was growing up and not attached to an electronics device. lol

  14. Now that my youngest is getting old enough to play games, we are starting family game night again! These games look great!

  15. We are a huge board game family and while we do play games with the kids appropriate for their ages my husband and I also game in our couples time but we play a lot of hardcore WWII and Civil War strategy games, we even brought games on our honeymoon. Yes, we are nerds.

  16. Bananas, its somewhat like scrabble yet without a board. its so much easier to take with you and a lot of fun!

    1. Are you referring to Bananagrams? I think we actually have it – I’ll have to make a point of featuring it. Thanks for the reminder!
