You Can Buy Edible Insects on Amazon
This may go down in history as the weirdest roundup of items we’ve ever featured on SahmReviews. And I’m sure you’re wondering what possessed us to come up with this list. Last week was our youngest daughter’s birthday, and among the things on her wish list was various types of candy. Nothing abnormal, just bulk packages of Jolly Ranchers, Air Heads and others that she could take to school and share with her friends. It was the section on Amazon which heralded “Customers who bought this item also bought…” that suggested one of these items to us.
I don’t know what the relationship between mass market sour candy and eight-legged creatures that have been seasoned and dehydrated could be, but it had me digging deeper through the suggestion list. I quickly realized there were quite a few edible insects available for purchase – and not just a bug-inside-a-lollipop! You name it, it was on there! Don’t believe me? See for yourself!
Bamboo Worms
Ever watch people eat bugs and creepy crawlies on Survivor, Fear Factor or any number of shows on the Food Network and say to yourself, “I could do that”? It’s about time for you to eat those words and try some. These are 100% real, BBQ seasoned worms. They are tasty and delicious, pack a nice crunch and are great for kids parties, Halloween or even as an early morning snack to help you “kick start” your day. Our Bamboo Worms are boiled & dehydrated, not fried (15g).
Black Ants
8 individual vials of 1 gram each.
Black ants have a strong taste for their size. Many people call it a limey or sour taste.
Great on salads, cheese, breads and with vegetables.
Black Crickets
This bag contains 15 grams of human grade edible Jamaican Crickets. These go great on your favorite cereal at breakfast time! There are approximately 50-60 crickets per bag.
Black Scorpions

No Artificial Colors

Great Source of Protein
Diving Beetles
It is suggested that the head and wings be removed before cooking or eating them. They can be eaten dried (as they are) or cooked.
Emperor Scorpions
Each scorpion is from 2.5″ to 4″ in length. Some have straight tails and some have curved tails. Please Note: These are food grade scorpions and we take care to preserve them but, in shipping, legs and tails may break. They are strong and easy to place on food so the scorpion looks whole. In most cases, they arrive intact, but please be aware that breakage may occur.
Flying Termites
Termite Alates sole purpose is to start new colonies and become the future king and queen of their new colony. These flying termites are fed some of the best food the nest has to offer and are well taken care of until the big day. Termite Alates are also a prized food source, they are packed full of nutrients and have a delicious nutty taste. They can be eaten alone as a snack, typically flavored with soy sauce, chili and pepper, or lemon grass and kaffir lime leaf. They are also an accompaniment to a number of savory dishes.
Giant Waterbugs
No Artificial Flavoring
No Artificial Colors
Boiled and Dehydrated not Fried

Grasshoppers
Delicious and crispy Chapulines (grasshoppers) from Oaxaca. Give a mexican twist to any plate, enoy it in tacos, guacamole, salsas, quesadillas, pozole, enchiladas or as a crispy delicious snack with a little squeeze of lime juice.
June Beetles (June Bugs)
‘Large’, you say? That’s right. There’s no shying away from the fact that these beetles once crawled, flew, fed and bumped into things (they are quite clumsy). But that doesn’t mean they aren’t perfectly edible if you’ve got the stomach for it. With their crunchy and unique taste, June beetles are a great source of protein and calcium. Enjoy them as a party snack, unusual pizza topping, or dipped in hot sauce.

Silkworms
Silkworms have an awful lot going for them. Not only are they used to make sumptuous Thai silk garments but their pupae by-products are tasty too! Sometimes, when you feel like a late-night snack and nothing else will quite hit the mark, you find yourself craving the larvae of the domesticated silk moth. What else?
Silkworms have a crunchy exterior and, reportedly, the taste and texture of mashed potato inside when fresh! Ours can be eaten straight from the bag and are low in fat, high in protein and a great source of essential fatty acids.
Superworms
1 Can of Chocolate Covered Superworms. This can contains 8-10 Superworms on average. Ready to eat.

Great Source of Protein
Yeah, I had no idea the variety was so extensive. Nearly 400 listings on Amazon allows you to choose not only the insect type, but you have your choice of flavorings also! My Amazon suggestion list will never be the same after this…
Excuse me while I fill up my cart with gummy worms.
Have you ever purposely eaten an insect?
Is there a large difference between the flavor of the insects? Also aren’t tarantulas known for having itchy hairs on their legs? The iching powder from the 50s was made from tarantula leg hair, are those hairy?
Didn’t know that about itching powder. I would guess there’s a big difference between spiders and crickets, but I’m not trying them to find out!
no way man
I never knew that there are so many edible bugs available. I don’t know if I would be able to eat them but one package of ants, crickets or scorpions would be worth a try.
I had no idea these were so readily available. I wonder if the guys in my family would try any of them. Maybe for Halloween!
I never knew these were available either. I could never bring myself to try any of them though. I don’t even think I could get my husband to eat these either haha.
I don’t think I could ever eat an insect on purpose. Maybe if I was out in woods with nothing else to eat and needed protein?
I didn’t know you could buy edible insects online!
My husband says “Delicious!”
I’m not so sure….. 😉
OK I had no idea Amazon sold these! People buy and eat these? I wonder what they taste like? I could not even imagine!
I can’t believe this is real. How crazy! I mean I’m willing to try one… just one…
Oh my goodness, this post made my skin crawl, lol. Bugs, well pretty much any type of insect creeps me out. I can’t even think about eating them. This is definitely an interesting round up!
I don’t think I am brave enough to try any of these. I had no idea there were so many edible bugs! None of them look appealing though.. lol
Yikes! I don’t think I could eat these insects! It’s surprising that there are people who could eat tarantulas.
Interesting to see what insects are edible but I can say for sure that I wont be ordering.
I had no idea this was even a thing. I definitely don’t think I would try this.
None of these make my mouth water!! I don’t like some of the above insects alive let a lone dead!! I heard of chocolate covered ants, but that’s it. Sorry, but the only way I would give any of these as a gift, if it’s a gag gift. That would be fun! Thank you for sharing!
I am sure these taste great, but there is a mental barrier to eating something like that. The best way to give these to someone is by not telling them what they are eating.
They would have to grind these up to make them unrecognizable, cover them in some kind of sauce to minimize whatever taste they had and not identify them on the label for me to even think of trying them. I know they are supposed to be full of protein and I guess if I was stranded somewhere with no food and it was eat these or die, I’d do what i had to do, but otherwise, it’s a big no for me….I think it’s just the scare factor (scorpions) and the gross factor (bugs) that repels me.
i do not think I will be ordering these from Amazon
I do not think I will be buying this on amazon
Insect protein is the future for the human species, it seems to me anyway.
Wow, I didn’t know they sold edible insects on Amazon. That’s crazy! Lol
How unique! I know some little boys who would have tons of fun with this.
No, I have never eaten an insect and hope I never find myself in a position where I have to…I had no idea that Amazon stocked so many varieties of edible insects, but stink bugs…ugh!
Gross!
I guess I’m not as adventuresome as I thought – this is a little too far out for me
My furbaby has some treats made from crickets and he loves them! I can’t imagine eating spiders and crickets though. Maybe give them out as Halloween treats?
