We Have a Monopoly on Christmas
I have such a hard time when it comes to buying presents for our niece & nephews (not to mention our preteen daughter). Some years they tell us exactly what to get them, usually from some brand name clothing store at the mall. Other years we have to ask their parents what they’re into now and try to find something that fits that. Last year we spent most of our budget at ThinkGeek on Star Wars and Dr. Who items, but we can’t do that again this year.
Our daughter is into Pokemon & Mario Brothers (basically anything Nintendo). Our youngest nephew just discovered the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles while our niece was the one into Dr. Who last year and still is. She has even talked about getting a tardis dress, much to the dismay of her mother!
If you’ve followed SahmReviews over the past year you know we’re into one thing heavily, and that is board games. We’ve not only found dozens and dozens of great titles at our local thrift stores, we’ve introduced our family (and our readers) to a wide variety of board games that you cannot find at your local department store. Using this knowledge, and a little help from our recent visit to ChiTag, we found the perfect solution – Monopoly!
I know, I know, you can find Monopoly at your local Walmart. But not like these from USAopoly! We’ve told you about USAopoly before when we brought you their latest game, Selfie. And before that we highlighted both Tapple and CrossWays, still favorites that the girls played just the other evening! But their bread and butter has always been licensed versions of the classic Monopoly game, and thanks to a broad range of titles, we were able to fill our entire Christmas list with one shipment!
Again, our oldest daughter is heavily into the Pokemon craze and her eyes lit up when she saw Charizard on the box cover. She didn’t know this version even existed, so it was an extra surprise for her knowing she has something new for her collection.
As I mentioned, our nephew is into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and was completely captivated by the Collector’s Edition and the custom pieces that came standard.
And for our favorite niece (also our only niece), it had to be Dr. Who.
This 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition also includes 6 Collectible tokens including The Sonic Screwdriver, The Seventh Doctor’s Umbrella, The Second Doctor’s Recorder, The Fifth Doctor’s Celery, The Eleventh Doctor’s Bow Tie, and the Fourth Doctor’s Scarf.
We’re still trying to get people away from the shelves at the local retail stores, and something like a licensed version of Monopoly might be a good gateway to make them aware of other options out there. Take a look at all the different versions USAopoly offers and watch their Facebook and Twitter timelines for announcements of new issues and giveaways! I personally have my eye on the World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition. For the Alliance!
My youngest son is addicted to Monopoly, if he knew there was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one he would want it. I will have to check these out for him.
No way!! I have to get the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle one for my son. He will LOVE it!
How fun is that? We just got the My Little Pony MOnopoly! 🙂
We have several versions of Monopoly ourselves, including two electronic versions that are totally different. My favorite Monopoly is the one for the Wii because I don’t have to set up any game pieces and we can pause the game and come back to it later without a mess on the kitchen table.
We will have to look at some newer versions. Last version we got was John Deere.
I had no idea that they had so many different versions. That is really a wonderful idea to zero in on what different friends and family like and gift them something unique. I see above in the comments someone received a John Deere version. I have a brother in law who has worked for John Deere for over 40 years and I am sure he would love that.
So cool! I knew a few people who would LOVE that Dr. Who Monopoly! Thanks for sharing this company; Going to check them out now!
That is so neat. I had no idea there were that many different types of Monopoly!
I never knew there were licensed variations of Monopoly–I am quite happy with the original version (and I still have mine from many years ago!!!). These would definitely make great gifts–especially if the child is enthralled with the variation!
It always amazes me how many versions of Monopoly there is! Looks like these games made their holidays!
Oh that is so neat. I didn’t know that there was a Turtles Monopoly.
What fun is this? I never knew that Monopoly now had these different editions – Grew up with the original – and my son and hubby and I played with and cards a lot – this is so very cool! Thanks for the share of info, Scott
Hi Scott,
I can not tell you the last time I played Monopoly lol I did not realize that it had many different editions as well 😉 Great share!
That is the coolest!! I bet they all loved those different versions of the game!
I know someone who would love the WOrld of Warcraft collectors addition, too! My kids were huge Pokemon fans when they were young!
I have to get a Dr. Who one for my husband – and I’m going to check out the other options too – we love scifi stuff – this would be neat!
I have Tardis Dress….and a Dalek dress and a space dress with the Tardis on it. 😉
My kids love both Pokemon and Dr. Who. I haven’t heard of these versions of games!
Okay I’m loving the TMNT!! How awesome is that? My son would love it.
We have 3 different monopoly games. My Little Pony Monopoly, Mega Monopoly and the regular one. Fun times.
No way…Ninja Turtles and Monopoly!!! Now that’s a cool deal. All my grand kids would love that game. May just have to get for my house…when they come to visit.
I don’t have a copy of monopoly but every time we start playing at a friend’s house I really enjoy it. They’ve done a great job at keeping the game fresh while not changing all the things that are the most fun about it.
Celery? I am not sure I want to know what that is about. I do not know anything about Dr. Who – obviously. I love the idea of these customized Monopoly games though. What fun!
