Philanthropic Friday: Kohl’s Cares

A few years ago, I was so excited to purchase a package of toilet paper that touted that a portion of the sales would go to support breast cancer. The package was the same price as usual so I thought to myself “I’ll stock up, it’s for a good cause.” When I got the package home and set it next to the one I had purchased on my prior trip to the store, I was disappointed to see that the package was actually smaller. All that time I was giving kudos to the brand for giving to a cause when in reality, they had reduced what they were giving to consumers in exchange. The consumer was paying the same and getting less. In other words, the toilet paper company wasn’t making less on the product, just reaping the benefits of the appearance of philanthropy.
That’s why programs like Kohl’s Cares stand out for me. They sell a product and 100% of the net profit goes to support their charity. Through September 20th, in conjunction with back-to-school, they’re offering their latest Kohl’s Care merchandise: Mercer Mayer storybooks – Little Critter. Through the Kohl’s Cares program, 100 percent of the net profit from the sale of this collection supports children’s health and education initiatives nationwide.
Available at $5 each exclusively at Kohl’s Department stores, this Kohl’s Cares collection will include the following merchandise:
- Books: Little Critter’s Bedtime Storybook, Little Critter Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Critter Little Red Riding Hood, Little Critter Hansel and Gretel and Little Critter 3 pack Board Book Set
- Plush: Little Critter, Little Sister, Bear and Wolf
- Etc: Zoo Matching Game, 2 pack Doodle Book
- Online Exclusives: Little Critter Where’s My Sneaker? (a lift-the-flap-book) and Mouse plush
It’s not just about the kids though. In addition to the Little Critter themed merchandise, The Mom 100 Cookbook and Good Housekeeping Stain Rescue! are available for just $5 each.
The Little Critter books and plus merchandise makes fantastic stocking stuffers (no, it isn’t too early to think about that). If you participate in giving trees during the holidays or donate to local charities like Toys for Tots, these are inexpensive yet quality items. Your purchase would spur a donation then your gift would be a second donation. That has win-win written all over it!
Next time you’re at Kohl’s, please be sure to check out this charitable program!
Hmm. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I know a few little children who would LOVE those toys and books!
Cheers!
what fun books and stuffed animals! And for five bucks? Very nice! We certainly love Kohl’s around this house!
Guess you have introduced a great book for my lo:-)
I am a Kohls lover! These are a great addition to the Kohls family!
I loved them as kids and would love to have each of the books and critters to share with the kids. Thanks for sharing with us, too bad I don’t have this nearby. 🙁
My kids love little critter books. This is a great cause. Do you know if there is a store in Canada that also does this.
We love Little Critter! These dolls are so cute. Great cause too!
Love the Kohls Cares program. They make for such great gifts for the kiddos.
What a great post!
Thanks!
Have a great weekend!
cute!
How neat – and you’re right, it’s not too early to think about stocking stuffers, Christmas will be here before we know it. Good time to stock up!
We always get a book or animal when we go to Kohls. It my little thing with my older son. Something special that we have done long before the other kids came along.
Those are great books. My daughter would love to read them and this is so generous to give the profits to the charity
I absolutely love the Kohls Cares program. I think it is a great way to give back and get something you actually will use. These are absolutely adorable.
These look like very cute books and plush toys. Looks like a lot of fun.
Kohl’s is one of my favorite stores to shop in. I love that they are also supporting great causes like this one.
I always try to purchase gifts that give back in someway. We have a few Kohls cares stuffed animals!
I think it’s awesome that Kohls is giving back and doing it with integrity. My kids would love these books and so would my god daughter.
Thanks for the early Christmas gift guide. I have a few kids in my life.
Thanks for the information.. 🙂 and wow… what a blast from the past.. I remember these critters from when I was younger..!
I love those books! What a great cause and thanks for sharing 🙂
My kids would go crazy for those little critters! This is a great program! Thank you for sharing!
I have gotten some great items from the Kohl’s Cares line over the years. These look adorable too!
My children love the Critters. I love that they have quality messages that I want my children to learn! Kohls has some great causes that they support through their books/stuffies sales.
I have like the Little Critter books since my 18 year old was a baby. It is wonderful that Kohl’s has a program to give back to their customers and the community.
I am 38 years old and I still love them! I don’t have kids (and my husband’s kids are a little old for these), but I am going to buy these so I can donate. Reading is SO important for all children and The Little Critters make it fun. 🙂
Those are so sweet and cute, kids love them 🙂
I always love Kohl’s Cares items, every penny is worth-you get to help a charity plus you get a quality book and toy for your child!
