Earlier this month I was fortunate enough to attend Disney Social Media Moms “On the Road” in Chicago. I headed up that morning with my camera, my purse and my tote bag filled with notepads and gadgets. When I checked in at the registration table, they handed me a swag bag. That’s standard fare for a conference. After registering while waiting for the doors to open, attendees lingered in the lobby, mingling and getting reacquainted with old friends. What this meant was a lobby full of women toting a whole bunch of bulky bags. Every tried hugging an old friend while wrangling a purse, tote, camera and swag bag? It’s kind of difficult.

It got me thinking… that’s pretty normal when I go to a conference or media event. A camera, a cell phone, an iPad or laptop. Business cards, charging units and cords, money, maybe even a purse. Something for taking notes too… Oh yeah, plus whatever swag is being handed out. It isn’t exactly easy to navigate a room or expo hall when you are loaded down with multiple bags, you know.

I guess that is why I’m so excited about the new Airbac Focus backpack I just received. It’s a camera case but has room to hold a laptop or iPad, and even a section for things common to a purse – pens, business cards, money and my cell phone!

No matter what I buy – whether a wallet or a vehicle, I’m all about compartments and cubby holes. This one not only had a bunch of compartments but they are adjustable!

The backpack wasn’t here in time for my DisneySMMoms conference so I decided to load it up and try it out for the kids’ out-of-town Jr. Olympics track meet. Normally, I would have my purse, my camera, a book and my iPad. (Plus a separate bag for sun screen, snacks and their gear.) This time, I consolidated so the only non-track thing I was carrying was the Airbac backpack.

You know how intrusive it was while I was at the meet? Well, let me put it to you this way. I walked around to the different parts of the field and stood next to DH for a while before he headed back to the team tent. I received a text from him asking if I had the backpack. Why yes, I did. It was on my back the entire time I was standing with him and walking around. He hadn’t even noticed it. The best part is that it was comfortable enough that I didn’t even really notice it either!

The niche feature for the Airbac backpack is an air pocket in the lumbar area. Strong, padded straps help keep the pack in place while the strengthened lumbar support helps keep the weight balanced. Aside from relieving back stress, it also helped protect the gear inside.

With BlogHer in San Jose just over a month away, I’m looking forward to consolidating bags not just for the conference but also for the flight! My back with thank me and so will my shoulders.
