Flashback: Spicy Pizza Thins

This article originally appeared February 5, 2011 on SahmRamblings.com.
Growing up, we celebrated the family Christmas with a meal of all appetizers. One of my favorites was a Pizza Thin recipe that my family had made for as long as I can remember. Now that I’m older, I still love it and enjoy it but have never had the opportunity to share it. Now I can!
Spicy Pizza Thins
Ingredients:
1 Pkg Cocktail Rye
1 16 oz Pkg Sausage
1 Lb Processed Cheese Loaf
1 can Pizza Sauce
Franks Original Hot Sauce to Taste
Directions:
Brown sausage; drain well
Cut cheese into small pieces; melt
Add pizza sauce to melted cheese; stir until well dissolved
Combine cooked sausage with cheese mixture
Add 3-4 teaspoons Franks Original Hot Sauce (more for bite!); Thoroughly mix it in.
Spread onto slices of cocktail rye.
Broil until cheese is nicely browned. Enjoy!
If you’re looking for a recipe with even MORE bite, eliminate the pizza sauce and double the Frank’s Red Hot Sauce. It doesn’t taste as much like pizza but it still tastes great!
Note: These can be prepared ahead of time and frozen on a cookie sheet. Allow to defrost slightly before broiling.
I think a Holiday (or any) meal out of nothing but appetizers is so fun. I really enjoy eating and entertaining that my myself. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

We also do all appetizers when we celebrate Christmas with family. Everyone brings up to 3 appetizers and it makes it so much easier on the host which is me 🙂
Great flashback, I haven’t had this in years….but now I want it. It’s so good, don’t know why it’s been so long since we’ve had it. We never put the hot sauce in, but that’s a nice addition.

I’d almost prefer having all appetizers and snacks than meals during the Holidays (except for thanksgiving, of course).

Sounds delicious!
We did a Christmas meal of appetizers for the first time last year. We didn’t feel deprived and it was fun!
Exactly, Lynne! It makes it so easy to mingle and have conversations when you aren’t trying to be proper and consumer a big meal. Plus, the kids get variety and actually eat which is often difficult when there is so much chaos.
This is a different recipe. Have never heard of it. It looks good.
these looks awesome! thanks
These nice Red Hot Pizza Thins looks so delicious. What a flashback, I can barely wait to try this nice recipe out.
I love spicy things and this sounds amazing.. Thanks
I love spicy food, but unfortunately, it doesn’t like me anymore! I used to put hot sauce on a lot of food. I think it livened up the taste of foods. I heard that spicy food is good for you in moderation. We used to make, what we called pizzawiches. We took hamburger buns or English muffins and put pizza sauce on it. Of course, I love mozzarella cheese, so that was a big must have! Oregano and garlic salt went on it. Bake in the oven until the wiches were done the way you liked them. Sometimes we added Pepperoni or sausage. I have never tried cocktail rye bread. Thanks for sharing! I guess us moms know how to feed the kids 🙂
Great appetizer!!
I am looking for recipes that my grandkids can help make and eat. This would be a good one.
The smoked pulled porks looks amazing
My son loves spicy food and this recipe would be perfect for him. I can;t wait to make it for him. Thanks.

Wei I wrote a book up yonder! I will say though, I love pizza and if it has to be spicy oh well – it will do! Where’s the TUMS?
