Wishing You a Safe and Celebratory 4th!

The older I get, the more I appreciate learning about history outside of a textbook. Last year during our trip to Philadelphia for PAX Unplugged, we took some time to visit historical landmarks. It was my first time there and I was excited to explore the city. To be standing in places that shaped the country was more moving than I expected. This is my first Independence Day since that experience and I’m definitely looking at the day through a different lens than before.

It’s with unyielding optimism that I believe our country will someday set aside differences and do what is best for everyone. Many men and women have given their lives for our freedom and that should mean something.

Whether you’re able to do it any other day, use today as an opportunity to set aside differences with your neighbors and celebrate Independence Day together. Enjoy food, games, entertainment, parades, fireworks and one another’s company. It’s the first step in mending the fences that continue to divide us.
