We were at Marshall’s the other day shopping for Easter dresses for the girls.  My MIL was in town and wanted to buy them each a new dress.  Fine with me!  I love Marshall’s and can’t help but wander up and down all the aisles looking for great deals and fun stuff.

Every once in a while, I check out the pictures and signs.  Not that I need anything but I like to window shop.  I saw a sign that caught my attention and I couldn’t help but laugh.  Although I don’t remember the exact phrase, it basically said “My soul has had enough chicken soup… it wants chocolate now.”

Yup.  Whoever made that sign is on the right track.  Chocolate is good for the soul. At least my soul, it is.

With Mother’s Day creeping around the corner, I certainly hope you’re thinking about something to show the special mom in your life how appreciated she is. For the most part, I’m happy with simple things like when DH takes care of getting the kids ready for school, bath or bed – or even taking care of a load of laundry here or there.  (He does this anyhow but not all husbands do.) But as I explained when I posted about ProFlowers, despite my insistence on being frugal – receiving flowers does make me smile. That goes for chocolate and jewelry, too.

Heaven help me… I was approached by Shari’s Berries asking if I would be interested in reviewing something from their site for Mother’s Day.

Seriously?  Do you really have to ask?  Of course I would love to!  Pfft. Do I want to review chocolate? What a silly, silly question.

Unlike with the flowers, I actually wanted to pick something out.  My MIL was going to be in town to celebrate Easter about the time they would arrive so I wanted to pick something that she would enjoy.  She’s a chocolate purist.  No, not organic or PURE chocolate.  Purist as in “Don’t mess up the flavor of my chocolate by adding anything else to it.”  She’s one of the few people who actually goes to the ice cream parlor and orders nothing but a scoop of chocolate with nothing on top.  Not me. I order it with all the fixings!

Anyway… DH and I checked out the various items and decided on this Easter truffle package.  It had a good variety of chocolates that I hoped would satisfy all members of our family.

When the package arrived, I kind of expected to see something like the picture – a nice pyramid of truffles on a pretty plate.  When I opened the box, I discovered truffles in-cognito.  I could put this on the counter and the kids would think it had eggs in it.

It wasn’t as glamorous as I thought it would be but once I opened it up, the packaging didn’t make a difference.  The chocolates were rich and delicious.  I’ve said before that quality chocolates are easier to savor than checkout-aisle products.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t turn down those standard candy bars – actually, I’m happy with them – but I don’t sit down, nibble and enjoy them like a good truffle.

While I thought we would tear through these in no time, I’ve been surprised at how long they have lasted.  Maybe it’s because the Easter bunny left stuff that appeases the kids.  Maybe it’s because we’ve also been enjoying the chocolate-covered strawberries that I spoke about here. Maybe it’s because there were too many flavors and nobody wanted to chance getting the ones they didn’t like.  All I know is that I need to up my time at the gym because I’ve been savoring a few of these a day!

The package contained 12 different kinds.  It probably would have been better to have a few less of the unique flavors like orange and more of the silky (more pure-chocolate) flavors.

Now if this sampler looks good to you, there’s a similar one available in the Mother’s Day category (but less expensive).

  1. I subscribe via email.

I'd give my mom the Potted Pink Rose with 6 Hand-Dipped strawberries. Mom had over 20 rose bushes in her front yard when I was growing up and I know she still loves them. Plus she always loved strawberries. 🙂

I am a mom and would pick the same exact item I mentioned for mine, for myself.
