  1. If a game is good, I am not really concerned about whether or not I am familiar with the IP. So I don’t need to be familiar with a video game that a board game is based on before playing it or not. Granted, if I am familiar with the IP (or video game in this case), I may appreciate the art, setting, story, etc. more, but I don’t find it necessary.

    1. I’ve never heard of video game it’s based on. I think for people who haven’t played the videogame there wouldn’t be comparisons made on any sort of story remade slightly for a board game. Some people I’ve played with make comments about how “well in the actual game” when we’ve played games based around a video game. Most people aren’t that way at least. Playing board games based on video games makes me want to check out the video game most of the time.

  2. IPs are (mostly) irrelevant. All they could possibly do is help draw my initial attention. But since I’m an omnigamer, most games can easily do that regardless. 😉

  3. Not for me. Well to explain a bit more, I begun playing northgard for theme and the ways of playing it. If I didn’t know pc game I think I would be as much curious about it. I love northgard.

  4. I backed Northgard for $1 but medical issues keep arising and I wasn’t able to purchase in the PM. Was a good campaign. I’d love to win this!

  5. In general, if I am familiar with an IP a game is based on and assuming I like it,of course I would give a deeper look and maybe even impulse buy purely on that. Of course that can be a mistake. I am not familiar with this…but the box totally drew me in and I’ve heard it’s fantastic.

  6. I have not played the video game — sometimes knowing the game makes me have more interest, but usually I like them just as much!

  7. If the game looks fun, it doesn’t matter if I’m familiar with it from other media. However, if I’m a fan of a franchise from another media, a boardgame will definitely catch my attention.

  8. I might not pick up a game if it is based on a franchise I am not familiar with or don’t like. For this game though, it seems interesting enough without knowing about the origins of the content.

  9. I think it would be easier to play if I was familiar with the videogame; however, it’s not a deal breaker for me!

  10. Not with this one because I’ve never played it, but anything classic like Pac-Man or Donkey Kong would definitely pique my interest.

  11. I’m not familiar with the video games, but this board game still looks beautiful and interesting. If I get to play the board game, maybe that will inspire me to get the video games too!

  12. I’m not familiar with the video game. Sometimes it makes me less interested because I don’t know if its more of a fan service game or a game that can stand on its own.
