Safely Celebrate this Independence Day
My heart sank as I finished re-reading what I shared last year at this time. Never could we have predicted that our lives could take such a dramatic change in such a short period of time, yet these words seem like a lifetime ago.
As you attend parades, firework displays and social gatherings with family and friends, take a moment to thank the veterans, police, fire, paramedics and other first responders who put their country and communities in front of their own safety.
Those words have so much more meaning this year than last. Not only are we not enjoying fireworks displays and parades, but few of us are attending any kind of social gathering. First responders have been in the spotlight, but for such horrible reasons – the impacts of a global pandemic. And the very words that describe today have such a deeper meaning. I encourage you to play firework-themed games, a game about a parade and historically-based games. While it isn’t the way we would have predicted the day would turn out, at least you can enjoy all the festivities that define a typical Independence Day, but you’ll be doing it from the safety of your own home.
As always, we hope you stay safe, happy and healthy this Independence Day.
