When I was in high school, I finally was allowed to upgrade my bottle-thick glasses to contact lenses.  What a huge difference it was!  As time has gone by, I’ve changed the types of lenses I’ve used from the basic (traditional) to disposable.  With very sensitive eyes, I’ve had to try different types.  About 8 years ago, I landed on the Night and Day style and have stuck with it. While they were created to stay in all night, I typically take them out at bedtime like a normal pair of contacts. With the optometrist’s blessing, I wear them longer than the recommended 30 days because I’m only wearing them during the day and they’re designed for 24/7 usage.

No matter what they type of contacts, I’ve always used a multi-purpose solution.  Not only does it disinfect but I’m able to store the contacts in it overnight as well as use it to wet the contact before putting it in my eye.

With both DH and I using these, we buy it in two packs, usually the store brand for price. However, we keep our eyes open for values on brand names. I’ve found that brand name generally work the same as store brand products – although some higher end brands definitely provide a better feel.

I want to remind you that my eyes are extremely sensitive so my process usually looks like this:

In the morning (after my eyes have had time to wake up):
– Remove contact lens from overnight container
– Place in palm, coat with multi-purpose solution and gently rub
– Place on fingertip, douse in multi-purpose solution before attempting to put it in
– Repeat process until both contacts are in

Often, I end up taking it out, repeating the process and trying again. I don’t know whether it is the solution, my sensitive eyes or what, but it’s pretty common.  At night, I remove the contacts and store them in the solution.

Bausch + Lomb recently sent me a bottle of Bausch + Lomb Biotrue to try out. The marketing says “Inspired by the biology of your eyes” and “pH balanced to match healthy tears” and blah blah blah. I’m not much of a box-reader when it comes to tag lines. I like to try things and if they work, I use them. If they don’t, it doesn’t matter what the box says.

Well let me tell you this… if there’s such a thing as a contact lens solution feeling smooth, then this is it. I found myself getting it right the first time without my eyes freaking out. In addition, I only used a small amount with each use because that’s all I needed. Maybe it’s because the solution is more effective with the overnight soak. Maybe it’s because of the formulation. I don’t know. All I know is that it’s been working well for me and now I need to watch for it to go on sale!

  1. I am looking into getting contacts, but had not thought about a solution to go with them, til now, I will have to try this to feel how smooth it is.

  2. I used to work at an optometry and ophthalmologist office and I loved helping people, usually kids or teen learn how to use contacts. I never knew about all the expense and the daily regimen of care. It still blows my mind that they make something to put ON your eye to be able to see better. And even more amazing they have laser vision correction for this. I also worked with this type of clinic
