2016 Gift Guide: Stocking Stuffers
We love candy. Who doesn’t? But when it comes to the holidays, it’s always more fun to get some pint-sized gifts in our stockings. That special little nugget of fun that is mixed among the candy and fruit. (Yes, we like it when Santa leaves fruit in the stocking!) But aside from that, it’s always fun to find stashes of gifts hidden among the tree branches.
A lot of times, the stocking becomes the after-thought and we just don’t think that’s right. It is just as important as what is going under the tree! For that reason, we’re featuring Stocking Stuffers as our second gift guide for the 2016 holiday season.
Our first gift guide included ideas for games for the family and we’ll have future guides as well. This list of Stocking Stuffers will offer gift ideas for various individuals on your list – with ideas for all ages. As a parent of a teen and tween, I recognize the difficulty in finding the right “small” item! Hopefully this list helps relieve that!
Over the next few weeks we will publish guides with games, toys, home items, electronics and more. If you see the logo, click on it to be directed to an in-depth review!

Steve Jackson Games
It’s a frantic feline fandango!
This fast-paced card game for 3 to 6 players features adorable art taken directly from animator and illustrator Simon Tofield’s YouTube series, Simon’s Cat, which has hundreds of millions of views. Go around the table playing cards to escape Simon’s attention. Get caught and you get Blame. Get too much Blame and you get fed last. No one wants that. Ages 6 and up.
Before I Kill You, Mister Spy
Alas, the tortured life of a super-villain. Every time you manage to lure a spy to your remote, painstakingly constructed lair and capture him, you face a difficult choice. Do you kill him immediately, ensuring that he won’t escape with the aid of your opponents and destroy part of your fortress on the way out? Or do you share your secret plans with him, in the hopes that he will be the only one alive capable of understanding?
Find out what kind of super-villain you’d make in “BEFORE I KILL YOU, MISTER SPY…”!
BattleGoats is a goat filled modern combination of classic card games like Memory and War. Players alternate turns in card battle to determine a winner using the highest number value. Number values change as the game goes on. The person with the last card in play wins. Rules are easy to pick up and games play in as little as 5-30 minutes for groups of 2-6 players ages 9+.
MetaCheckers is CHESS played with CHECKERS. The checkers move like chess pieces — based on the roll of a special pair of dice. The CHESS DIE tells you what kinds of moves you can make. The NUMBERS DIE tells you how many spaces you must go. Your goal: Capture your opponent’s KING CHECKER. If you add the special KANGAROO DIE, you can bring in 6 more fun moves.
With compact packaging, this is a great upscale stocking stuffer or excellent as a stand-alone gift.
The Ravens of Thri Sahashri
The Ravens of Thri Sahashri is a beautifully illustrated cooperative card game in which players must work together to rescue Ren from the darkness. Hidden amongst the cards are the memories that will stir her from her troubled slumber, and it falls upon Feth to help her find them. Communication is key, but the only means they have to do so is through patterns formed with the cards. Will Ren be saved, or will she fall prey to the ravens circling overhead?
White Wizard Games
Star Realms is a spaceship combat deck building game designed by Magic Pro Tour Champions and Hall of Famers Darwin Kastle and Rob Dougherty (developer and co-founder of the Ascension Deck building Game). Star Realms offers all the thrills of traditional trading card game style combat, combined with the fun of a deck building game. Play powerful ships, destroy enemy bases or blast your opponent directly on your way to victory!
Their Favorite Restaurant or Retailer
This may seem like an impersonal gift, but that’s only if don’t put any thought into it. A $5 gift card to a favorite restaurant or retailer is a gold mine to a child. Being able to buy “whatever they want” – like a hot chocolate with lots of whipped cream when mom is getting her daily coffee – is a joyous feeling. For older kids and adults, a gift card to an ice cream parlor or coffee shop is always appreciated. Pick up a multi-pack of small denominations and spread the love. These make ideal gifts for teachers and bus drivers!
These compact items make nice additions to stockings or are great for friends, neighbors or coworker gift exchanges. They offer a big impact in a small package! Again, look for the tiny logo on titles that we’ve previously given a full preview. Be sure to keep an eye out for most of these items to show up in our 100+ Days of Giveaways.
