Celebrating the 250th Birthday of our Nation

How we celebrate the 4th of July changes year over year. Sometimes we’re traveling, other times hanging out at home and enjoying amazing smoked pulled pork, flavorful vegetable dip, refreshing State Fair lemonade using real lemons or a custom mason jar milkshake bar. As much as I love a great fireworks display, I dread how difficult it is for the animals so haven’t sought those out for several years. Drone “fireworks” shows don’t offer the same feel but provide different types of “oohs” and “aahs”. I’m hoping to hear more of those incorporated into celebrations, and will pursue those in the future as technology inspires their creativity. Parades are great, but they aren’t on the agenda either.
This year, we’re headed to see the Savannah Bananas put their spin on one of our country’s beloved pastimes. We’ve been following their progress since the early days, but this is the first time we get to see them in person. I’ve been told it’s not just a game, but a whole event that starts hours before the gates even open. I’m incredibly excited!
Of course, the day is about the history of our country so I would be remiss if I didn’t encourage people to play a historical board game or watch a movie about our country. We saw Young Washington at the theater this past Monday. It was perfect timing and an excellent lesson about the first President of the United States… well before he had such a title.
Spend time with family and friends and celebrate not just our country, but how lucky we are.
