Disclosure

I dare you to picture this… I enter the airport restroom and hear a plunk…

…Followed by a very loud “Oh, $%^!” from the stall next door. As I quickly discovered, the woman traveling with me had dropped her cell phone into the toilet.

Yes. The toilet.

On the way to a social media conference of all places. Thankfully, it was as she entered the stall and not as she was leaving. Nonetheless, the future of her phone was somewhat in question as she quickly removed the case and frantically tried to dry the phone before it was damaged.

Ultimately, her phone survived the drop; thanks in part to the protective case she had on it. The fact that it was encased kept the majority of the water from penetrating the phone. Cases aren’t perfect (and this type certainly wasn’t designed to make the phone waterproof!) but in general, they do give a phone more longevity. That’s pretty important for daily life, capturing photos, communicating and of course, surfing. But when you’re on the way to a social media conference where you’ll be using your phone non-stop, it’s vital.

I wish the same could be said for the woman I ran into shortly after arriving at the conference. In total despair, she divulged that she, too, had dropped her phone. Not in the toilet. On the ground.

Sans case of any kind.

Her screen was shattered to smithereens and was completely unusable.

At a social media conference.

It’s bad enough that her phone had been damaged but the fact that it was completely unusable… when it could have been easily avoided… made it worse. Yes, if she had a case on it, her phone likely would have been usable after the drop.

Personally, the only time my phone comes out of a case is when I’m running and that’s because I was having trouble with the accuracy of it within a case that is in a waist pouch. I’ve considered getting an armband case but the pouch is able to hold my keys and my phone and I really like that. The minute I’m done running, it goes back into the protective case. I get paranoid even taking it in and out for fear I will drop it and *kaplooey* instant broken phone. Not sure what I would do without my phone…

Having our phones protected is important to us. Both DH and I have tried a variety of cases and sleeves for our phones and it all comes down to personal preference and our personal needs. But no matter what, we’ve come to realize that it is important to have it in a case of some sort. Especially during the summer months where deep, cozy pockets and purses are less prevalent and you’re more likely to grab it for a quick photo while out and about.

The choices of iPhone cases and accessories are plentiful at Best Buy so finding one that fits your needs should be easy. Whether you need one that is super durable, practical, decorative or one that is great for exercise, the options are there. With many choices in style and price, you can even do side by side comparisons to figure out which is best for you.

Oh yeah, if you like a bargain, check out the Mophie cases at Best Buy. They offer protective cases without sacrificing style  and for a limited time, you can get 10% off select Mophie cases!

Whether you’re headed to a conference or the park with your kids, the last thing you want is a broken phone.

Or find yourself needing to explain that it didn’t survive the drop in the toilet.

  1. First off I would like to say excellent blog!
I had a quick question in which I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing. I've had trouble clearing my mind in getting my thoughts
out there. I do enjoy writing

  2. I have dropped my phone more often than I would like to admit, without a phone cover I would not have a phone anymore. I think phone covers are a life saver! Well worth the money to buy them.

  3. If I had a smartphone I’d surely get a case for it but I live somewhere with no G so I still have a very old flipphone. Welcome to the ’90ies!
I will write that I do not understand the need to have you phone out while going to the bathroom….
