Mega Giveaway Day 140 – Star Cartel Game

Back in the early days of eBay, we used to find awesome deals on used goods then turn around and find new homes for them elsewhere. There were times we made a little profit and other times we didn’t. Learning to maneuver through the system was part of the game. Those types of skills come in handing with Star Cartel from Osprey Games. You’re trying to maximize profits on your stockpiles while trying to minimize those of your opponents. These are skills that work throughout life as you negotiate on the price of a car, a house, products at a swap meet or even the price you’re willing to accept or pay for any particular service. It’s a game we felt deserved a place on our list of family games – and ultimately, in our 150+ Days of Giveaways!

  1. I used to work pizza delivery and one day I showed up fifteen minutes for my closing shift at 5pm, to ask if I could have the day off, the boss said I could ***IF*** I could find someone to cover my shift. I was scheduled to clock out at 1am, so I found the guy scheduled off at midnight. He would cover one extra hour. Immediately I began working down the line getting everyone to agree to cover one extra hour, until I got to the guy scheduled to be off at 5pm (who had just sat down in with the boss to count out his cash), of course he agreed as well.

The best part? I got all eight employees to each agree that they owed me a favor for getting them an extra hour on their paychecks!

  2. Usually board game trades of course. Finding a good home for something you don’t play much anymore to get something on your wish list 🙂

  3. At an auction, I purchased a set of Murano glass which normally sold for approximately $500 for $15. Even the auctioneer (afterwards) said ‘You got a great deal!’

  4. The best deal I ever made was on dirt!!! When the Yankees rebuilt their stadium hubby insisted on having dirt. I found an awesome deal on Steiner website that came with pictures and dirt from both the old and new stadiums. I saved it for his Christmas gift and it literally brought a tear to his eye.
