SuperSwizz Spiral Slicer

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

This client elected to forego a blog review in exchange for an Amazon review. You can view it here.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I received this slicer for free from SuperSwizz for testing and honest opinions about this gadget. I have never used this type of spiral slicer before, so I can’t comment whether it is better or worse than similar slicers on the market.

However, I am very familiar with the mandolin-type slicers that are commonplace in the U.S. and I have always been terrified of them. They seem like they are designed to include a couple fingertips in your salad, so I rarely use it. And while this spiral slicer is much cheaper than a mandolin slicer, it not only does a better job of julienne, it cleans up much easier.

I elected to award four stars instead of five because of two minor design drawbacks. This basically works like a pencil sharpener, and just like when you’re sharpening a pencil to the end, you’re left with a ‘nub’ of vegetable that you still have to slice by hand. Also, I would have preferred to see two penetrating tines (like a corn-cob holder) rather than one to help keep the vegetable from spinning on the holder. If I could give 4 1/2 stars I probably would.

The addition of a clean-up brush is a great touch and makes cleaning the business-end of the slicer a breeze. It will stain over time since it is made from plastic, but this isn’t a presentation piece in the first place. I haven’t needed to test out the “Lifetime Guarantee”, but since you’re buying it from Amazon I wouldn’t hesitate to contact them if needed. For those who haven’t ever had to call Amazon’s customer service (I have), they’re amazingly accommodating and definitely customer-oriented.
