Sequels Dominating September 2023 Movie Release List
We’ve known the writer and actor strikes would cause some adjustments to our viewing options, but the September 2023 movie list is worth noting. The handful of original features hitting the big screen are seriously overshadowed by all the sequels. Yes, I know, follow-ups to prior hits were in the works before the strike. It’s just odd to me that SO MANY are releasing at the same time.
Even with that in mind, there are plenty of options (sequels and originals) for all ages of the family. I mean, if it’s a franchise you enjoy then by all means hit the theaters for the sequels. And if you haven’t watched their predecessor lately, they’re probably being featured on one of the streaming services in preparation for the sequels.

D*cks: The Musical (Movie title edited: algorithms didn’t like it)
Two self-obsessed businessmen discover they’re long-lost identical twins and come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents, in this riotously funny and depraved musical.
The nice thing about sequels is that sometimes it highlights a major hit you missed the first time around. There is at least one movie in September where that’s the case for me and the sequel has driven an interest in learning more about the series. Of course, I’m also looking forward to seeing Dumb Money because we watched that true story unfold in real time. It will be interesting to see how it’s reflected on the big screen.
How often does release of a sequel make you want to go back and watch the original?
