I came to the realization last weekend that things from here on out will be much different than they have in the past. Our schedules have been filled to the brim for quite some time, but everything is changing now. What life-changing event could have possibly happened that offered this revelation? No, we aren’t pregnant. That’s not even funny.

Homecoming at the high school.

Yes, homecoming. High school. Ugh. As you know, the girls have been involved in various sports and extra-curricular activities for awhile now. But it all seemed, I don’t know.. like normal kid-stuff. But this. This reality. It means that I need to accept that the kids aren’t little kids any longer. My babies are growing up. It means that my after-school taxi service has now graduated to the level of “What time is curfew?”

Everyone says the kids grow up quickly, but I think that’s probably because we’re constantly so busy we don’t have time to realize what day it is. Or year. What year is it, by the way? If you’ve had teenagers, your answer is probably “The year of eat and run” and I’m inclined to agree with that. Kennedy doesn’t make it home until 5:30 while Madison is sticking around the high school for a variety of after school activities and clubs with various ending times. They leave the house grabbing snacks to get them through the day and tide them over until a late dinner.

At the same time, I’m working or running errands during the morning and early afternoon then popping to the park to pick up Kennedy’s musical instruments from cross country practice. Then I’m darting to the high school (or wherever) for who knows what. It’s madness. While our breakfasts and lunches are pretty consistent, dinners are far from it. I used to purchase bulk sizes of items then repackage into snack size bags or boxes, but they’re not in elementary school any longer so that doesn’t really work. Besides, I’m not dedicated enough to maintain any normalcy in my own portion control and with a busy schedule, the convenience of prepackaging is worth its weight in gold.

I’ve discovered that I spend an awful lot of time in my vehicle, while simultaneously not going anywhere. A lot. Just waiting around. I use the time to get work done, but it’s usually this down time that has me hankering for something to eat. As soon as the kids get in the car, they’re asking for food also.

…Or while waiting (im)patiently for a child to get done with whatever I’m picking her up from. Who am I kidding? I like these bite sized snacks because I can eat them in little bits over a period of time, savoring all the sweetness when willpower permits.

In case you didn’t know it, I have a horrible sweet tooth. I even have a Pinterest board entitled “Stupid Sweet Tooth” because sweets are something I gravitate toward. When I’m asked my favorite dessert, I can’t answer because one day it might be a chocolate ambrosia pie and the next a carrot cake. When we grab store-bought cookies, I’m torn between which variety to get and often find myself grabbing multiple packs simply to have options when the cravings hit. The NABISCO Multipack solves the decision-making process by including three of my favorites all in one box. As a bonus, I know everyone else in the family likes Mini Chips Ahoy!, Nutter Butter Bites and Oreos Mini as well. Oh wait. That’s not a bonus since it means I have to share. Alas, no matter who is on the run, their preferred portable sweet snack is ready to travel with them.

  1. Earlier this year I put together a plastic container with a lock down latch on ll 4 sides. I filled it with great snacks for on the go. We traveled across the states and with our children. At rest stop’s instead of climbing in the back of the camper or running into a store everyone gathered around my box treats were snatched up! It’s become such a good thing that we have it in our truck. It comes in handy when the grandchildren are with us! I do have these Nabisco Snacktime treats in my box as well. Better to be prepared than have nothing! Traffic jams that take an hour….where’s my box? It’s a life saver!

    1. That’s a fantastic idea, Jodi! When we travel I usually have a bag of snacks, but it’s just there and not stashed away so we often end up grabbing things during stops anyhow. I like the idea of holding it aside until the stop!

  2. It’s good to have snacks packaged like these. When you have kids it’s great to be able to give each their own. Hopefully it will cut down on the arguments.
