Taking my daughters to swim practice is important to me. I enjoy watching them (and of course, socializing with the other moms) but it is also because I know how difficult it is for their dad to take them. He's perfectly capable and is willing to do it, but with two tween daughters, if they decide to hang out in the locker room for a while after practice, he's totally at their mercy.
I'm less than five pounds from my goal weight. Although it may seem like it has been a long process, since we aren't dieting and are simply changing our habits, I couldn't expect it to melt away fast. Well, I could, but that wouldn't be reasonable now, would it?
Our new food choices include a lot healthier options than before but as I've said before,
we don't exclude snacks. Actually, we don't exclude anything, really. We limit what we have and make better choices.
There are only a few movies that I have on my short list of all-time favorites. On that list is the
Men in Black series. This is a series that I not only see in the theater, but have to own my own copy. Well, I just found out that the pre-order is live and I can watch a copy two weeks before the DVD is released!
I ran out to Walmart to purchase their exclusive pre-order copy which includes a digital stream via Vudu two full weeks ahead of the release. They also mail you the DVD copy FOR FREE!
I must have been in the 6th grade or so when I received my first BB gun. I have long since forgotten the brand or model, but I do remember the great feeling of 'power' when I held it. Down the hill from our house was a small river. It was officially a river, but was more like a strong stream - about 15 feet across and 5-6 feet deep. A small wooden bridge was the only way to cross this part of the river. That's where I set up shop.
Guilty as charged. Like 99.9% of all guys out there, I am only concerned with my underwear when there is a problem. NO, not that kind of problem...the "hey, there's nothing clean to wear" problem. At last count I had nearly 30 pair of underwear in my drawer. No telling how old some of them are, but with 30 pair, they tend to last a while (and hey, I can go a whole month without washing them)!
But lately I've been on a search. A search for a better-fitting brief. Twenty years ago it seemed I had many choices of brands, but the styles and colors all fit into the "Tidy-Whitey" category. Now there is no limit to cuts and colors we can use to protect our (*ahem) important bits.
Despite the fact that I'm watching my weight and changing my eating habits, I still like to eat out. Scratch that. I LOVE to eat out. Splurging on a meal out every once in a while helps validate our process. We've made general changes to what we eat and it includes portion control and the incorporation of many more vegetables. We aren't dieting. That would imply there is an end to this. If we exclude the things that make us happy, then we'll feel deprived and inevitably will go back to our old ways.
That's not okay.
With my Mother-in-law scheduled to arrive in a few days, I'm in OMG-I-need-to-clean mode. So I solicited the assistance of my girls to dust and vacuum while I did more difficult tasks like steaming the carpet. They spent the morning being so incredibly helpful that after lunch I added something to their to-do list.
"Go play. That's what you need to do next."
As you know, the "SAHM" part of SAHM Reviews stands for Stay-At-Home-Mom. But as my kids get older, seldom do I stay at home. Aside from school activities, they are involved in gymnastics, religious education and the big time-sink... Swim team.
