Miss M and Miss K expressed an interest in Pokemon and wanted to spend some of the money they received from our recent yard sale to purchase a starter deck to begin playing. At the store the other day, they each picked out a Pokemon deck to purchase with their own money. Then a third one landed in the basket. The girls shook their heads and said "What's that for?" The response "Well, how am I supposed to play if I don't have a deck of my own?"
When I was a kid, on special Sundays we would leave church and rush to the bakery behind the corner bar to pick up donuts. If we dawdled too long, the best ones were always gone. In some cases, all of them were gone.
On more than one occasion by more than one parent - total strangers included - I've been told that I have the best...well-behaved...kids they have ever seen.
Why, thank you! We work hard at it.
A few weeks ago, my daughters were invited to the zoo to celebrate a classmate's birthday. In lieu of birthday gifts, they asked that the children bring standard grocery items as a gift to the zoo. I had never realized that zoos utilize common foods like barbecue sauce, salad dressing, noodles and other common foods as supplements to the animals diets. What I loved about the idea is that the children were taught something about philanthropy.
As location-based apps started rolling out and making their way, I constantly asked myself a few questions...
What's the point?
Why would I want people to know where I am?
Why would people care?
Each year, we undertake some kind of project around our house. Whether it be painting and updating a bedroom or something more major like a kitchen remodel. A few years ago, we decided to give some love to our much-neglected back yard. The prior owners had never done any kind of landscaping and the deck had never been stained. It was desperately in need of help.
When I was pregnant with Miss M, I was naturally nervous. She would be my first child and I wanted to do everything right. I read books, talked to people and surfed communities (like iVillage) online for information. I took the opportunity to sign up for whatever I could - baby magazines, free samples, everything. Figured it wouldn't hurt to have too much information.
I'm not quite sure why but things have sure seemed hectic lately. I started off the year on the right track.
Exercising both at the gym and at home.
Trying healthier dinner options
Refocusing when I went out to eat.
