If there’s one thing that I am NOT, it’s creative.  I’m not sure how I manage to keep my certification of being a mom since I don’t come up with all those cute crafty ideas that other moms do.

During Miss M’s Valentine’s party, I watched as other moms distributed cute crafts for making a mouse out of a lollipop or a heart-shaped crayon that was created by melting a kaleidoscope of crayons.  Me?  Nothing like that.

Instead, I lean toward the techie side of things.  For Valentine’s Day this year, we didn’t hand out cards or candy that had been purchased at some mass merchandiser.  Instead, we attached Fruit Roll-ups to construction paper that we had cut using fancy scissors.  Then adhered a label that read:
“The picture inside is very neat,
So be sure to look at it before you eat!
I had this treat made especially for you!
Happy Valentine’s Day!”

You see, these weren’t just any run-of-the-mill Fruit Roll-ups.  These were custom-crafted, personalized My Fruit Roll-ups

No creativity required so it was right up my alley.  The MyFruitRollups website has a huge selection of designs to choose from – from holidays to special occasions.  They also allow you to start with a blank canvas… if you ARE the creative kind.  I used a predesigned Valentine’s canvas so for me, the hardest part about it was picking which pictures to put on the roll-ups!

Technology sure is a cool thing, isn’t it?  Honestly, this is such a neat idea and a total change-up from the usual birthday treat or sports snack.A few helpful hints for anyone interested in creating a customized Fruit Roll-up.  First, if you’re adding a picture, select one with a light background.  I’ve had two orders of these done and the one with the dark background didn’t turn out as nice. Second, notice in the preview area that the Roll-up is actually a parallelogram and not a square.  If you select a design that has multiple areas, double check how it looks in the preview area because you may not like how the photo looks when cut at that angle.  Finally, pay attention to the box before throwing it away.  There’s a wealth of Box Tops for Education points that you don’t want to miss!

  1. This is totally cool but I don’t know how you can say you aren’t creative. I’m still using your “assorted cards in a pretty box” as a gift idea. You always have the best ideas : )

  2. Greetings! These are so much fun! They would be great for my nephew’s classroom birthday party treat. I like the Balloon Happy Birthday design with his name! Please enter me in your fun giveaway drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

  3. We did the melted crayons into a heart for V-Day!

I’d choose the 3×3 design, with a pic of my daughter, one of their Happy Birthday clip art pictures, and a message from my daughter saying thanks for coming to the party.

  4. I love that you can put a picture on the roll up. This would be perfect for my son’s snack day as I have a picture of the whole class. I am sure the class would get a huge kick out of seeing their picture on the roll up.

  5. Okay, those are pretty awesome. Part of me wants to do them for our wedding favors, it would just amuse me immensely. 🙂 Maybe the Valentine’s day pattern?

  6. There are so many I like! But I know my daughter would love the princess design and my older son would love the dinosaurs.
